This connection lets Gofylo publish articles to a self-hosted WordPress site. For a site hosted on WordPress.com, see Connect WordPress.com.
What you need
- A WordPress account that can publish posts.
- An application password for that account. This is not your login password.
In WordPress
- Signed in as that account, go to Users > Profile > Application Passwords.
- Create a new application password and copy it. WordPress shows it only once.
If there is no Application Passwords section, your site runs a WordPress older than 5.6, or a security plugin has turned application passwords off. Turn them on in that plugin's settings.
WordPress explains this in its guide to application passwords.
In Gofylo
- Open Integrations and click Connect on the WordPress card.
- Fill in the fields:
- Site URL: your site's address, starting with https://. If WordPress is installed in a folder, include the folder.
- WordPress username: the account's username.
- Application password: the password you copied. Spaces are fine.
- Click Connect.
Gofylo saves these details without testing them, so your first publish shows whether they work. To change them later, click Configure on the card, change what you need and click Update credentials. Leave the application password empty to keep the one already saved.
What gets published
An article goes out when you click Approve & Publish on it, or on its scheduled day when Auto-publish articles is on in Content Settings. The post goes live with its title, body and URL slug. The meta description becomes the excerpt, and the cover image is uploaded to your media library as the featured image.
Republish sends your latest edits to the same post. Deleting the article in Gofylo also deletes the post, skipping the trash.
If it doesn't work
Open the article and expand Advanced > Publish history to see the error. Fix the cause, then click Approve & Publish again.
- "WordPress auth failed": the username or application password was refused, or the account can't publish posts. Create a new application password, paste it into Application password and click Update credentials.
- "Unexpected WordPress response" with a code such as 301: your Site URL redirects. Enter the address it redirects to.
- "WordPress resource not found": Gofylo could not find your WordPress site at that address. Check the Site URL, including any folder.
- "Missing credentials for wordpress": a field is empty. Fill in all three again.
