Connect Notion

Add each article as a new page in a Notion database.

This connection lets Gofylo add each article as a new page in a Notion database. In the setup's Integration step, the Feather card opens this same Notion setup and saves a Notion connection.

What you need

  • A Notion database for your articles. Its title column must be called Name.
  • A Notion internal integration that the database is shared with.

In Notion

  1. Create an internal integration and copy its secret.
  2. Share your articles database with the integration.
  3. Copy the database ID from the database's address: the part between the slash and the question mark.

Notion explains integrations in its integration guide.

In Gofylo

  1. Open Integrations and click Connect on the Notion card.
  2. Fill in Integration secret and Database ID.
  3. Click Connect.

Gofylo saves these details without testing them, so your first publish shows whether they work. To change them later, click Configure on the card, change what you need and click Update credentials. Leave the secret empty to keep the one already saved.

What gets published

An article goes out when you click Approve & Publish on it, or on its scheduled day when Auto-publish articles is on in Content Settings. It becomes a new page with the title in the Name column, the cover image as the page cover, and the whole body: headings, paragraphs, lists, quotes, images with their captions, links and bold text. An article with a table of contents gets Notion's own, built from its headings. The page has no meta description or schema markup.

When an article changes, for example with Republish, the page's body, title and cover are replaced with the new version. Changes made to the page in Notion are replaced too; pages and databases inside it stay where they are. Deleting the article in Gofylo archives the page.

If it doesn't work

Open the article and expand Advanced > Publish history to see the error.

  • "Notion auth failed": the secret was refused. Copy it from your integration and enter both fields again.
  • "Notion resource not found": the database ID is wrong, or the database isn't shared with your integration.
  • "Notion rejected request": Notion refused the page, and the rest of the message says why. Check first that the title column is called Name.

After fixing an error, click Approve & Publish on the article again.
